Overview

We are seeking a qualified nurse to provide nursing oversight and support to individuals receiving OPWDD services. This is a part-time position ideal for a nurse looking for supplemental, flexible hours.

Responsibilities

​

AMAP Oversight and Supervision

• Provide ongoing nursing supervision and clinical oversight of AMAP-certified staff.

• Ensure that only staff with current and valid AMAP certification administer medications or perform applicable delegated nursing tasks.

• Maintain or assist the agency in maintaining an accurate system for tracking AMAP certification and recertification expiration dates.

• Ensure AMAP staff do not administer medications when their certification has expired.

• Observe medication administration practices and evaluate staff competency.

• Provide additional supervision, retraining, counseling, or competency assessment when medication-administration concerns are identified.

• Remain available, or ensure appropriate nursing/healthcare professional coverage is available, for consultation regarding medication and health-related concerns during service provision, consistent with the agency's program model and OPWDD requirements.

• ​

Medication Administration Oversight

• Review medication orders and ensure medications administered at the program have appropriate practitioner orders.

• Monitor Medication Administration Records (MARs) for completeness, accuracy, proper documentation, omissions, and discrepancies.

• Ensure medications are administered according to the individual's current orders and applicable medication-administration procedures.

• Monitor medication storage, labeling, expiration dates, disposal, and security.

• Review procedures for controlled medications when applicable.

• Ensure staff understand medication indications, precautions, potential side effects, adverse reactions, and when nursing or emergency intervention is required.

• Coordinate with physicians, pharmacies, families, residential providers, care managers, and other healthcare professionals when clarification of an order or health concern is necessary.

 

Medication Errors and Incident Follow-Up

• Review and respond to medication errors, missed doses, documentation discrepancies, and other medication-related concerns.

• Assess the individual when clinically indicated following a medication error or adverse event.

• Provide staff with appropriate instructions regarding physician/pharmacy notification, monitoring, documentation, and follow-up.

• Participate in medication-error investigations and corrective-action processes.

• Identify patterns or trends in medication errors and recommend corrective measures.

• Provide remedial training and competency reassessment when indicated.

• Maintain documentation demonstrating the agency's response and remediation of medication errors. OPWDD survey protocols specifically review medication-error reporting and remediation systems.

 

AMAP Certification and Recertification

• Conduct AMAP training, certification, recertification, and medication practicums when qualified/authorized to do so under OPWDD requirements.

• Ensure AMAP candidates successfully complete required training and competency-based practicums before independently administering medications.

• Conduct annual AMAP recertification and competency review as required.

• Maintain complete documentation of certifications, recertifications, practicums, competency evaluations, and remedial training.

• Review the AMAP's medication-administration performance during the certification period as part of the recertification process.

 

Staff In-Service Education and Training

• Develop and provide ongoing health-related in-services.

 

Qualifications

• Active RN or LPN license in good standing.

• Experience working with individuals receiving OPWDD services required.

• Experience in a residential setting strongly preferred.

• Familiarity with OPWDD requirements, medication management, and documentation standards.

• Strong communication and organizational skills.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with care staff.
