JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: IT-Technician                                                   Department: All

Reports to: Director Of Development                            FLSA Status: Exempt

Classification: Part-time/Full-time                                Pay Rate: $24/hour

 
 

Position Summary:
 

We are looking for technically skilled candidates with good problem-solving ability for the position of IT technician. The duties of an IT technician include being a reference point for all IT related queries at the user level, responding to user needs in a timely manner and ensuring the optimal running of all systems, among other technical duties.

 

IT technicians are expected to display good interpersonal skills as they will interact with colleagues from various departments and executive levels. They are required to listen to their technical needs, understand their problems,

and implement solutions to them.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

 

· Set up workstations with computers and necessary peripheral devices

  (routers, printers etc.)

· Check computer hardware (HDD, mouse, keyboards etc.) to ensure functionality.

· Install and configure appropriate software and functions according to specifications.

· Develop and maintain local networks in ways that optimize performance.

· Ensure security and privacy of networks and computer systems.

· Provide orientation and guidance to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment.

· Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance without deterring others from completing their work.

· Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems (repair or replace parts, debugging etc.)

· Maintain records/logs of repairs and fixes and maintenance schedule.

· Identify computer or network equipment shortages and place orders.

· Installing and configuring hardware and software components to ensure usability.

· Troubleshooting hardware and software issues and ensuring electrical safety standards are met.

· Repairing or replacing damaged hardware.

· Upgrading the entire system to enable compatible software on all computers.

· Installing and upgrading anti-virus software to ensure security at the user level.

· Performing tests and evaluations of new software and hardware.

· Providing support to users and being the first point of contact for error reporting.

· Establishing good relationships with all departments and colleagues.

· Conducting daily backup operations and managing technical documentation.

· Identifies and procures the hardware and software needed to satisfy user requirements.

· Install hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, and disk drives on users' premises.

· Provides technical support to users for voice and phone systems, including Net Fortris phone systems and virtual voicemail systems.

· Loads appropriate software packages such as operating systems, networking components and office applications.

· Provides network and server administration and oversight, including monitoring security and backup protocols.

· Assists in the customization and adaptation of existing programs to meet users' requirements.

· Provides telephone, in-person, and online support to end-users.

· Coordinates activities with network services and information systems groups

· Provides updates, status, and completion information to manager and/or users, via voice mail, e-mail or in-person communication.

· Refers major hardware problems to service personnel for correction.

· Connects user to networks and provides initial training in facilities and applications. · Administers email and anti-virus systems.

· Coordinates with vendors for needed technology-related services such as printer/copier maintenance.

· Assists in research and procurement of computer accessories and supplies.

Qualifications:
 

- Proven experience as IT Technician or relevant position

- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

- Excellent communication ability

- Outstanding organizational and time-management skills

- In depth understanding of diverse computer systems and networks

- Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles

- Degree in Computer Science, engineering, or relevant field

- Certification as IT Technician will be an advantage (e.g. CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional)

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.

- 2+ years of experience in computer networks and systems maintenance.

- A+, Linux+, or Cisco Certified Network Associate accreditation advantageous.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Good interpersonal skills.

- Proficient in database programming and software installation.

- Attention to detail.

- Good problem-solving skills.
